About the SME program
Sensory and moving experiences weave through the study and inquiry of each body system and the progression of developmental movement, guiding participants into the transformative process of embodiment. Through movement, partnering, touch and being touched, sound, vibration, verbal dialogue, and somatic imagery, we find our unique way to live more fully in our individual anatomy and physiology. This inner journey leads to outer expression as we learn to access the potential of our articulate bodies. Movement skills, observation skills, hands-on techniques and somatic education principles are explored and expanded making this work appropriate for both personal and professional development. The SME material has immediate applications to movement based disciplines - dance, yoga, sports, martial arts - and to other therapeutic modalities such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, bodywork and massage.
The Moving Within environment, at Studio in the Woods, offers the experience of immersing oneself in the material, away from the distractions of city living such as commerce, industry, traffic, cell phones and the like. Moving Within promotes low impact living and the BMC® principles of finding ease, balance and rejuvenation through transformation. Participants can commute from Eugene taking the 45 minute drive through country, farms and forest or they can choose the Residency option of tent camping with support and comfort.
This 500+ hour program can be completed in four years. All course work including homework assignments must be completed to receive certification. All SME courses can be taken individually or in combination for personal growth or professional enrichment, except for Professional Issues 1 and Competency 1.
